PH 5 Pendant Lamp

A beautiful sculptural element both when it is on and off, the PH 5 Pendant is a much-loved and well-known fixture design found in many spaces around the world. A follow-up to his celebrated three-shade system, Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 and was inspired from the desire to create flattering, softer light in an era when homes were still transitioning to electric lighting and incandescent bulbs, whose effects were more utilitarian than aesthetic.

Named according to its shade size, PH 5 provides a comfortable, glare-free light, based on the principle of Poul Henningsen’s reflective three-shade system, which directs the majority of the light downwards. It emits a lateral light as well as illuminating itself, providing a soft radiance from within its core. The lower shade is furthermore fitted with a frosted diffuser glass to ensure that the downward directed light is 100% glare-free.
